Vertical Garden

The prompt for this assignment was to create something where you had to implement the same process 5 times and the process should consist of art least 2 steps that we learned in class / the woodshed safety session.

I had in my mind that I wanted to create a vertical garden. I got a long piece of wood and sawed them into 6 inch pieces. Each piece was meant to be a shelf but I then realized the pieces were too thin and I had to connect two side by side to give each shelf a wider base.

I initially thought of gluing each piece of wood together using wood glue but I was then made aware that I would have to clamp each piece together for 24 hours in order to make it sturdier.

Benjamin Light from the wood shop gave me the idea of using wooden attachments that were drilled into each piece of wood and I could join two pieces together.

Once I had all pieces attached together I tested drilling the edge of the wood in order to put rope through. The rope will hold the shelves together vertically.

I put the rope through the holes. I then used a not to fix the wood at the end and used hot glue gun to make the other shelves fixed.

Below is a prototype of how it is supposed to work.
